Honda Plans to Cut Emissions in Half

Since Honda has no electric vehicle, the company is looking to become more environmentally friendly. And in the coming years, its cars are aimed to have its total greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. Oh, we should also mention a plug-in model will appear in 2018.

These improvements will be made primarily through the design and production process. Honda just made a $210 million investment in its Marysville plant, which will lead to 18% reduction in emissions and 66% reduction in volatile organic compounds in the painting process, according to a company statement.

Stay tuned for more information on how Honda is pulling its weight in the challenge to have a more sustainable environment.

Beloved Employee Passes

Last week a beloved fellow employee Jose Magana passed away after a brave, fierce, respectable fight with cancer.

Jose served 8 years at our store as a valuable part of the team. He was a great example of how to do things right. His great attitude, great work ethic and reliable nature made him one of the best. Jose’s wife, son and two daughters are very proud of the way Jose fought the tough fight for the past 8 months and those of us at work were amazed at the incredible attitude Jose demonstrated through every challenge along the way.

Jose will be missed but not forgotten. Jose’s family will remain in our thoughts and prayers through this time of challenge.

Apple CarPlay and the 2016 Honda Accord

Apple CarPlay and the 2016 Honda Accord

The 2016 Honda Accord will be the first mass-marketed car to come with Apple's CarPlay. As today's consumers become more and more technologically submerged, Honda is doing everything it can to keep up with the demand.

"At a basic level, customers have been asking us why can't the technology of the car work as well as the technology of their phones," said Sage Marie, Honda senior manager of public relations. "Connectivity is important to millennials. Our research shows that many of them consider their time in the car as a disruption to connectivity."

CarPlay will provide users with some of the popular iPhone apps, using a built-in 7" screen on the dashboard. Connected by a cable, 2016 Honda Accord owners will be able to make calls, send texts, use e-mail, and listen to music.

This is certainly exciting news for us and everyone who loves Honda! Stay tuned for more updates!

Stay Strong Jose!

Our lead lot technician, Jose Magana, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Over the last few weeks, he has endured chemo treatments while working--what a champ!

We're very appreciative of all of Jose's hard work and dedication. He is one of our Honda family's hardest workers, and we couldn't thank him enough.

We will be showing our support for Jose by wearing purple on Fridays. Purple is the awareness color for pancreatic cancer. To all of our Honda friends and family, let's be sure to show Jose our love in support during his battle against cancer. Stay strong, Jose!

Honda Begins Testing Self-Driving Cars

Today, Honda announced it has began testing technology to bring consumers a vehicle that drives itself. Testing is taking place in the Bay Area, and the automaker is joining Mercedes-Benz at the "GoMentum Station."

The station is a 5,000-acre facility that is a former military base. There are 20 miles of private paved roads and buildings, giving the feel of a natural environment.

We foresee a future where vehicles will be able to communicate with each other and understand the roads, which will give travel boosted safety.

While other automakers have permits to test their self-driving cars on public roads in California, Honda is not quite there. In the future, this is likely to come.

Stay tuned for more updates as Honda releases news.

I'm Getting a New Car: Lease or Purchase?

We all know that when we walk into a car dealership, we have the option to purchase a car or to lease one. But what's the difference? What should you do? Leasing will save you money on your monthly payments. Purchasing will turn your car payments into an investment. Both the options to lease and purchase have their advantages and disadvantages, but what will work best for you? We're here to help give you a brief explanation, that way you can make a better-informed decision during your next car dealership experience.

Leasing:
When you lease a vehicle, you're essentially renting the car. You make your monthly payments, and you are able to continue driving your ride. Lease payments are lower than the payments on a vehicle purchase, since you are not moving toward owning the vehicle outright. A typical term for a lease is 36 months.

At the end of the lease term, you have a few options:

  • You can turn the car in, and find a new vehicle.
  • You can sell the car, and perhaps make some money.
  • You can turn the lease into a purchase, and begin making monthly payments.
One should be careful about the amount of driving they do with a leased vehicle. Leases come with a mileage agreement. While the standard amount of annual miles allowed for a lease is 12,000, you are able to take a higher mile allowance for an increased monthly payment. Be careful, because if you have more miles on the odometer than the agreed upon amount, you will be charged by the mile--usually a steep price that you'll want to avoid.

The most common route consumers who lease their vehicle takes is to turn the car in and find a new vehicle. In some circumstances, you'll find that the value of the vehicle is higher than the residual value given at the time of the lease agreement. Residual value is the amount a car is projected to be worth at the end of the leasing term. When the actual value of the car is higher than the residual, you can sell the vehicle for the higher price and make the difference between the selling price and the residual. For example: if you have a residual value of $16,750, but are able to sell the car for $18,500, you just made yourself $1,750. Cars that have an easy time holding their values are promising for drivers looking to make this extra cash. And if you really like the vehicle and would like to continue to drive it, you can begin to make monthly payments toward the residual value.

Leasing a vehicle can be a great option for people who are looking to save some money and like to switch vehicles often. Every three years, you can park a new, shiny vehicle in your driveway. But keep in mind, the payments you are making aren't working toward paying off a vehicle you will own. If this seems like a fitting option for you, come visit us and we'll help you get started!

Purchasing:
There are a couple of ways to purchase a vehicle. You can pay cash, up front, and have no monthly payments. This is the cheapest way to buy a car, if you have the money to lay out. You will avoid any interest fees, and become an instant owner. If you don't have the money to lay out, you can finance a new vehicle. When you finance, you will make monthly payments until the balance of the car is paid in full. The average loan for a car is 60 months, although 72 months is becoming more popular. The less months you finance a vehicle, the lower the payment... and vice versa. Your finance rate will be dependent upon your credit score.

Those looking to get into a vehicle they intend to keep for years on end will find that purchasing a car is a better route than leasing. If you like to switch vehicle often, it may be wise for you to think about leasing, so you can avoid the possibility of losing money on your investment. If this seems like a fitting option for you, again, you can come visit us and we'll help you get started!

The All-New 2016 Honda Pilot

Honda is set to release an all-new style for the 2016 Honda Pilot. This will be the third generation of the Pilot. The automaker has decided to move away from the boxy style that we’ve seen for the previous model, and into a rounder, sleeker look. Its design was first revealed on February 12, at the Chicago Auto Show. Honda dealerships expect to see the upgraded Pilot on the lot this summer.

Most notably, the premium family SUV will have a new powertrain and advanced technology. It will also feature increased cargo and interior space. The Pilot will introduce the all-new Earth Dreams Technology 3.5-liter, direct-injection i-VTEC V-6 engine. Simply put, this engine is powerful and efficient. Improving upon one of Honda’s most raved about aspects of its vehicles, Honda promises the most advanced safety features, yet.

With a lighter weight, owners can expect to earn better gas mileage with the renewed 2016 Honda Pilot. On the other hand, Edmunds.com points out that Honda will not offer a four-cylinder or hybrid option—the only negative feedback the well-known car review site had to share.

First came the renovated Honda CR-V, and now the all-new Honda Pilot, Honda is working hard to redefine what consumers should expect out of the SUV market.

Be sure to check in with your local Honda dealer for more information and updates. You can "like" our Facebook page to get the news first!

Five Winter Driving Tips

Driving in the snow can be stressful for anyone, even for people who deal with it every winter. No matter the vehicle you drive, you’re not guaranteed safety when it comes to the mean conditions of the winter. We want everyone to be safe this winter, so we’ve put together a quick list of tips to keep you and your family safe when those roads get covered in snow and ice.

1. Have all vehicle maintenance handled
The two most important things you have situated are your tires and brakes. These two items are critical to your ability to stop and accelerate when things get slippery. Be sure you don’t make any sort of trek without enough traction on your wheels. There are many other things under the hood that can ultimately leave your car shutdown on the side of the road, so a visit to your local service department could save you a lot of time.

2. Four-wheel drive does not make you invincible
While it is extremely beneficial to have a vehicle with four-wheel drive in the winter, many people run into the mistake of believing they can conquer anything with this feature. Four-wheel drive is designed to help you accelerate on roads with wet conditions, while not having your vehicle slip and slide. It does not, however, help you to stop on a dime.

3. Give the cars in front of you plenty of room
While you should always give the car in front of you on the road plenty of room, in winter conditions you should give even more space. You never know when that person is going to come to an abrupt stop, and since it’s harder to stop on snow-covered roads, you want to be sure that you have adequate room to stop.

4. Always look ahead
Watch far ahead for stoplights, brake lights, and sharp turns, among other obstacles that will require you to stop. It takes more time to bring your vehicle to a halt on snow-covered or icy roads, so be sure to give your vehicle plenty of time to slow down.

5. Do not slam on the brakes
When your car begins to lose traction, you might instantly think to slam on your brakes. This is the last thing you should do! It will take away all of your traction, leaving you with no ability to control your vehicle. Instead, you should brake with even, steady steps on the brakes. Do not brake when entering a turn.

We want everyone to be safe this winter season while driving around. Be sure to be a smart driver, as well as have your vehicle maintenance up to date. Schedule your service appoint here!

Whatever Your Credit May Be... We've Got You Covered!

Whatever Your Credit May Be... We've Got You Covered!

Have credit issues that are preventing you from getting behind the wheel of the car you love? Let us help show you how you can overcome this concern. At Larry H. Miller Honda Murray, we have professionals that specialize in finding options to get you financed for a vehicle. Stop trying to find reasons you can’t get into a car, and start thinking about the car that not only will handle your needs, but will be something you’ll love!

What you need to know!

Research:
It is crucial to do research before making your way into the dealership. There are many different ways to avoid the obstacles of bad credit, but not all of these options will lead to credit repair. Many of the "Buy Here, Pay Here" dealerships will ultimately set you up for failure. The more research you do, the more prepped you will be, which will make less likely to fall into a trap. This blog post is meant to serve as a basic guide to buying a car with damaged credit, but your research shouldn’t necessarily stop here.

Your Credit History:
You should have an idea of your credit situation before going into any dealership, so that you’re not surprised by anything and you can also have the opportunity to dispute or fix any credit issues possible. There are websites that offer free credit checks, like Credit Karma. Once you have your credit score, you can take a look at your credit history, as well as know where you sit with your credit score. This information will be useful for your research, so you have an idea of what your capable of receiving, in terms of financing.

What You Need:
Too often, car shoppers fall in love with something they want, rather than something they need. And sometimes, this is the exact decision that results in damage to their credit. Before you go car shopping, take some time to decide what kind of vehicle you need. Do you just need the car to get from Point A to Point B for work? If this is the case, you probably don’t need to get a big SUV. Do you have a large family that requires a lot of room? Then maybe you should look at that big SUV or a minivan. Leather, sunroofs, big rims, upgraded stereo systems, you know, all the bells and whistles? How important is all of this for you? It might be wisest to pass on these luxuries, and exchange it for a smaller monthly payment.

Things You Need to Bring!

Down Payment: While many people would like to buy a car without having to lay out any money up front, this isn’t always the best way to go about purchasing a car. Furthermore, for those buyers with damaged credit, there is more of a need for a down payment. When you provide a down payment, you are showing the lenders commitment, which will go a long way in helping you get a reasonable financing rate. A good rule of thumb for how much you should put toward your down payment is to put down the total cost of all your taxes and fees for the vehicle.

Proof of Employment:
In order to get financed for a vehicle, you will be required to provide proof of employment. This can come in the form of your most recent pay stub. The financial lender will want to see that you are employed and have a source of income. If you do not have a pay stub, you can reach out to your employer and they will be able to provide this documentation.

Proof of Residence:
Be sure to bring along proof of residence. This can come in the form of utility bills, bank statements or even a pay stub with your home address. Proof of residence is also something that is required to be provided by the lender.

In a Nutshell:
We understand that your past is exactly that, the past. While you may have damaged credit, there are options out there for you. The best thing you can do is prepare yourself with research. Larry H. Miller Honda Murray has professionals that specialize in finding car loans for buyers with circumstances like yours. Don’t be discouraged. Come in to see us, and you’ll be glad you did.
